They called my exploits in the Marijuana Smuggling business "SCA" (Sophisticated Criminal Activity). However, nothing could have been further from the truth. In reality, the description of my business workings should have been Sophisticated Cannabis Activity.

Throughout my career in the 1970's, my partners and I stuck to a strict code of conduct that revolved around respect, trust and fun. We considered our chosen career path to be "gentleman's sport". I never carried a gun in any of my business dealings, nor did I have a reason to have one. The men that I worked with exchanged millions of dollars in cash and product on a simple handshake. It was entrepreneurship on its purest level: no contracts, no lawyers, just a man's word and simple trust. When someone decided to take advantage of the trust that we had in them, no retaliation was taken; we simply stopped working with those people. Further, even when offered large sums of money to import other substances, I only carried marijuana on my boats.

There was a certain level of respect and honor that went with being a marijuana smuggler in the 1970's. A strong desire for adventure and excitement, a love of marijuana, knowing the "right" or "wrong" people (depending upon your perspective) and a big pair of cojones all mixed to create the marijuana smuggler of that day. Many of us were surfers, fishermen and watermen and our love of the ocean, boats and a saltwater lifestyle encouraged our foray into the marijuana smuggling trade. Once you were admitted into the fraternity of pot smugglers, life was lived on an extraordinary scale. I hope you enjoy the stories. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to live these adventures.
